What does yoga mean to you? On the mat, for many it is a way to strengthen and stretch your body or maybe to have an hour (or 90 minutes!) of peace away from the busy-ness of life. Postures challenge the body, and at the same time yoga is a mental practice where you can work through emotional and psychological challenges and possibly even find a meditative state. You are developing awareness both in the body in the mind; how you act and how you react on the mat can translate to transformation—how you act, react and interact—outside of the yoga room as well.However, what does yoga mean off the mat? There are many ways to “live yoga” off the mat. There are the Yamas and Niyamas (non-violence, truthfulness, nonstealing, non excess, purity, contentment, and self study to name a few), mindfulness, community, developing a sense of inner calm and at the same time, being a part of something bigger than ourselves. At /brēT͟H/, we would like to extend our yoga beyond the mat, outside of our studio and into our community through seva, which is Sanskrit for selfless service.We will kick off this endeavor with an effort to bring recognition to National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month as we head into September. In support of the ChadTough Foundation, we will donate a portion of every “Back to School” New Student/Welcome Back Special Purchase to the CTF. Additionally, we will host a donation based Inferno Hot Pilates class at the end of the month—Sunday, September 29th 4 p.m.—SAVE THE DATE! Finally, we will offer all participants in the RunTough for ChadTough a free class to loosen up and stretch out following the ChadTough 5k on September 28th. (Just bring in your race bib/number to redeem your free class within one week of the race).
